We will explore the various material and construction options available to fill chair and sofa back cushions including new replacement cores, repair and re-fill options, and completely redesigning to address specific client driven comfort and aesthetic goals. Have you ever wondered how to convert a poly fill back to foam without losing the soft overall shape and appearance of the original cushion? We'll discuss the pros and cons of several different approaches. We'll also cover down and feather envelopes, mixed fill cores, and share a few basic methods for adding a little bulk to existing cores to give them a little longer life for those price conscious projects.
Justin began his journey into the world of furniture in an Antique showroom, selling and managing the shop. After receiving his degree in Interior Design, he moved to a firm built around a luxury full-service home furnishings showroom specializing in custom and built-to-order furniture of primarily North American Manufacture. Over the next decade, Justin designed residential interiors, attended market as a showroom buyer, and eventually opened a satellite studio location as Design Director and Showroom Manager. This experience offers a unique perspective and knowledge base informing his current practice in upholstery. Nine years into his new career in the Upholstery trade, learning from a 3rd generation family of craftsmen while sharing his studio management, Interior Design, and luxury sales experience has led to his current position as their lead craftsman. Most recently he created a personal side project, "Foxglove Artisan LLC" to explore upholstery and adjacent craft, education, research, and training opportunities that don't conform well to the busy full-service upholstery workroom environment.
